North Wales’ Finest Art Gallery and more..
For our lodge owners at Tremfan Lodge Park, one of the joys of owning on the Llŷn Peninsula is having some of North Wales’ finest attractions right on the doorstep. Few places showcase the area’s culture, creativity and spectacular scenery better than Plas Glyn-y-Weddw in Llanbedrog.
Known primarily as one of Wales’ leading art galleries, Plas Glyn-y-Weddw is much more than an exhibition space. Home to a vibrant programme of changing exhibitions, a welcoming café, gift shop and year-round calendar of cultural events, it has become a true hub for the arts on the Llŷn Peninsula. Whether you’re browsing contemporary Welsh art, meeting friends for coffee, or attending one of its many events, there’s always something happening at this much-loved venue.
Coastal Outdoor Theatre
During the summer months, one of the highlights of the programme is outdoor theatre in the John Andrews Theatre, a purpose-built open-air amphitheatre within the grounds of Plas Glyn-y-Weddw. With seating for around 250 people, it is one of the most unique outdoor performance venues in North Wales.
The setting is what makes the John Andrews Theatre truly special. As audiences settle into their seats, they are surrounded by some of the finest scenery on the Llŷn Peninsula. To one side rises Llanbedrog Headland (Mynydd Tir-y-Cwmwd), home to its iconic Tin Man sculpture, while Plas Glyn-y-Weddw itself stands proudly on the other. Behind the stage, the golden sands and sparkling waters of Llanbedrog Beach stretch out towards Cardigan Bay, creating a breathtaking natural backdrop that changes with the light as the evening unfolds. As the sun begins to set over the bay, the scenery becomes every bit as memorable as the performance itself.
Many visitors compare the experience to Cornwall’s famous Minack Theatre near Penzance. While the two venues differ in scale, they share something special, the rare combination of professional live theatre and spectacular coastal scenery. Watching a performance beneath the open sky with the sea beyond the stage is an experience few venues in the UK can offer.
A Company Like No Other
This summer, the acclaimed Illyria Theatre Company returns to Plas Glyn-y-Weddw with three exciting productions: Pinocchio, As You Like It and The Three Musketeers.
Founded in 1992, Illyria Theatre Company has become one of the UK’s most respected outdoor touring theatre companies. Known for its energetic performances, talented casts and imaginative productions, Illyria brings classic stories and family favourites to life for audiences across the country. Their productions are perfectly suited to outdoor venues and have earned a loyal following among theatre lovers of all ages.
Whether you’re enjoying Shakespeare’s witty comedy As You Like It, introducing younger family members to the adventures of Pinocchio, or joining the swashbuckling exploits of The Three Musketeers, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
